3D Secure is a security feature for authenticating online transactions performed when using Credit/Debit Cards at 3D Secure enabled merchant websites. It provides an additional layer of security and protects cardholders and merchants from unauthorized online transactions.

 

“MasterCard SecureCode” and “Verified by Visa” are 3D secure authentications powered by MasterCard and Visa respectively.

 

Customers will be required to authenticate online transactions using a 6-digit One Time Password (OTP) which will be sent by the Bank to the customers’ mobile number or email address registered with the bank, when making purchases or payments at 3D Secure enabled online merchants. The 3D Secure enabled online merchants display the “Verified by Visa” and/or “MasterCard SecureCode” logos on their payment pages.

  

All online transactions performed with your RAKBANK or Amal Card at participating 3D Secure enabled merchant websites will require you to enter a 6-digit OTP in order to complete the transaction. If the merchant is not 3D Secure enabled, you will not be required to enter the 6-digit OTP.

The steps involved in receiving the 6-digit OTP and completing the online transaction are mentioned below:

1. Shop Online at any 3D Secure enabled online merchant site and checkout

2. Enter your RAKBANK or Amal Card details during checkout

3. Select the delivery mode by which you wish to receive the OTP

4. You will receive a 6-digit one-time password (OTP) on your mobile or email address registered with the Bank, depending on mode of delivery selected

5. Enter the OTP in the authentication screen

6. Transaction will be completed after successful verification

After you have entered your OTP correctly, RAKBANK will authenticate all details and following successful verification, the transaction will be authorized.

When using your RAKBANK or Amal Card for online transactions at 3D Secure enabled merchant websites, a 6-digit One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your mobile number or email address registered with the Bank. You will be required to enter this OTP to complete the transaction. This is to ensure that the transaction on your Card is performed only by you and protects you against any unauthorized use of your Card while shopping online.

There is no registration required for MasterCard SecureCode / Verified by Visa authentication for neither RAKBANK nor Amal Cards. Every time you transact online at a 3D Secure enabled online merchant, a 6-digit one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your mobile number or email address registered with the Bank depending on your preference. You will be required to enter this OTP to complete the online transaction.

If the OTP is entered incorrectly, you will be prompted to enter the correct OTP. If you enter the OTP incorrectly 3 times then the transaction cannot be completed. In such case, you will be required to re-start the purchase transaction at the merchant site.

If you have not received the OTP you could request for the OTP to be resent by clicking the “Resend OTP” button on the screen.

The OTP is valid for 10 minutes only.

The OTP is valid for 10 minutes. If you enter an expired OTP to complete the transaction, a new OTP will be automatically generated and sent to you. The new OTP will be sent to you as per the delivery mode you had requested earlier. Appropriate messages will be displayed on the screen for your reference and understanding.

No. The OTP can be used only for the specific transaction for which it was requested. Once the OTP has been used to complete a transaction, the same OTP cannot be used to complete another transaction.

The OTP entered by you will not be shared with the merchant. This will be validated by RAKBANK to confirm authenticity of the person performing the online transaction.

No. This additional authentication process is applicable only when you shop at participating online merchants that have enabled this security feature. 3D Secure enabled online merchants will display the “Verified by Visa” or “MasterCard SecureCode” logos on their payment pages.

No. You do not need to apply for a new RAKBANK or RAKislamic Card to use this security feature. The MasterCard SecureCode / Verified by Visa authentication feature is now available on your existing RAKBANK and/or RAKislamic  Card.

Yes, you can. You do not need to install any special software to avail this additional authentication feature while performing online transactions. When you transact at a 3D Secure enabled merchant website with your RAKBANK or Amal Card, your transaction will automatically require 3D Secure authentication and you will be required to enter the 6-digit OTP to complete the transaction. Please remember to unblock pop-ups on your computer’s browser, as you may not be able to complete your payment with 3D Secure authentication at some merchant websites that require pop-ups to be enabled.

The additional 3D Secure authentication is not applicable on online merchant sites that do not support MasterCard SecureCode / Verified by Visa authentication. Transactions performed at these merchant sites will be processed as normal online transactions without OTP authentication.
