Steps to take if Your Credit Card is stolen

by RAKBANK

Sometimes even the best laid out plans can go haywire. Imagine walking on a street with your friends when suddenly your wallet is snatched right out of your hand. All your cash and cards would be gone in a second. Most of us would become panic-stricken at this moment and wouldn't know what to do next. However, the next steps are fairly simple and can easily safeguard your card (even after it's stolen). Just remember to stay calm.

Steps to safeguard your card:

1. Note down your card details: Make sure you keep a note of your credit card details. So, in case your credit card gets stolen, you would still have your credit card number and other details with you.

2. Report stolen credit cards to your bank: In case your wallet is stolen or if you suspect that details of your card have been compromised it's important to inform your bank immediately. If you are a RAKBANK customer, you can call our 24/7 Contact center on +9714-2130000. You should also request a change of PIN number for any stolen card. Upon notification, the bank will block your lost or stolen credit card and reissue a new one.

3.File a police report: If your card was stolen, you should not just call your bank, but also file a report with the police. Documenting the incident with authorities may aid in finding the perpetrator and holding them accountable.

4. Keep written records: While notifying the bank and police authorities is of utmost importance, it is also important to document all the communication and actions taken during the process. Make a note of whom you spoke to, at what time and of any follow up items. If possible, try and also send an email to your bank to keep a record of the communication. You can write to RAKBANK at [email protected] in case you feel your card/account details have been compromised.

5. Continued vigilance: Once your card is blocked, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Ideally, nothing can go wrong after this. Still, we would recommend staying attentive towards any fraudulent activity to prevent the long and arduous process of dealing with a scammer's wrongs. For example, keep a special tab on the SMS alerts related to your credit card.  In case you notice any suspicious activity, get in touch with your bank and police authorities again.
