Chip & PIN Cards
Enjoy more security and peace of mind across the globe with the Credit, Debit and Prepaid Chip & PIN Cards.
Why is Chip & PIN technology more secure?
The RAKBANK and Islamic Banking Chip & PIN Cards have an embedded microchip on which your Card data is securely stored ensuring that your Card is unique and cannot be duplicated.
When making a cash or retail transaction with your new Chip & PIN card, either at an ATM or at a merchant, you need to enter your 4-digit PIN. That means that if your Card is ever lost or stolen, no one else can use it, because only you know your PIN. This provides you with an additional layer of security for all your transactions and ultimately much more peace of mind.
How to use your RAKBANK Chip & PIN Card
When making payments at merchants with your Chip & PIN card, you should note the following steps that will be performed:
- Merchant will insert your RAKBANK or Islamic Banking Chip & PIN Card on the chip terminal and enter the exact amount of the transaction.
- Upon reading the Chip on the Card, the terminal will require you to enter the 4-digit PIN.
- The merchant will then request you to enter your 4-digit PIN on the terminal keypad, which you should do in a secure manner.
- When your 4-digit PIN is accepted as valid and the transaction is authorised, the chip terminal will print the transaction receipt confirming that your payment has been successfully processed.
- The merchant will then return your Card along with the transaction receipt.
- Since you have completed the transaction using your PIN, there is no need to sign the transaction receipt.
What about merchants without Chip terminals?
RAKBANK and Islamic Banking Chip & PIN Cards will continue to have the magnetic stripe on the back of the Card. This means that you will still be able to use your Chip & PIN card at merchants who do not process payments using chip terminals.
When using your Card at such merchants, the merchant will swipe your Card and will ask you to sign the receipt to authorise the transaction.
What about ATMs?
The process for using your Chip & PIN card at ATMs will not change. You’ll still need your PIN to complete your ATM transaction. All RAKBANK ATMs are already Chip-enabled, and are also available 24 hours a day.

How can I protect my PIN?
Protecting your PIN is not just about choosing the right 4-digit number. It is important to make sure that no one has access to your PIN and that it cannot be easily guessed by people known to you. When entering your PIN at an ATM or Chip terminal, it is good practice to shield the keypad with your hand and body so that no one can observe or record your PIN while you are entering it.
